Elite World Rowing Championships: 8th place
At the World Championships in Belgrade, not only medals were awarded, but also the first tickets for Olympic Games in Paris 2024. Our goal was to secure a top 7 place and thus qualify for the Olympics.
After a difficult start in the heats, after a tough second half of the race, we still managed to finish in 3rd place and thus avoided the resits. We started two days later in the quarter-finals, this was a very important race in the battle for the Olympic tickets. With a 3rd place we were able to qualify for the semi-finals. We had resolved to row the race of our lives during the semi-finals to secure a top 6, but in vain we could not qualify for the A final. The next thing to do was to get first place in the B-final. In that B-final, we got off to a good start, rowing a perfect race. We went to the limit for the fourth time that week, but it was just not enough. We finished in the most thankless place of this World Cup, 8th place. We saw the Olympic ticket slip right out from under our noses.
However, we are currently in "pole position" to qualify at the European qualifying tournament in April 2024. Now a little time to rest, then we will start again to focus fully on this qualifying tournament.
