Piediluco: double GOLD!

After eight months of rehabilitation and re-training I took to the start of the Memorial Paolo d'aloja in Piediluco (ITA) on Friday 31 March. In the heats on Friday evening, I was able to qualify immediately for the next day's final, albeit in second place just 0.3sec from Irishman Hugh Moore.
The next morning the final was rowed in which Matteo tonelli quickly took the lead, but I had learnt from my mistakes of the previous day and came back quickly in the second half of the race. I was able to narrowly beat the Irishman and Italian and came first! This victory was a very emotional one, which I have worked incredibly hard for over the last few months together with the team of experts, coaches and family who surrounded me in this. The Italian came second, the Irishman third.

Since I couldn't get enough, I decided to compete again the same day in the light skiff. On Saturday afternoon, just before a heavy thunderstorm, we rowed our heats and this time I qualified for the final with a first place.
The final was rowed the next morning with a light breeze against, my favourite conditions. And my opposition knew it, from the beginning of the race I was able to put myself in front and slowly increase my lead. So we rowed to the finish and I was able to take first place for a second time! The Irishman finished second and the Italian third.

After this weekend, I can conclude that my international comeback was more than successful and that I am officially back competing at the top level!
